Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman, 20, of Minneapolis was taken into custody and charged him with two counts of first-degree assault, as reported by CBS Minnesota. Reports indicate that Abdirahaman allegedly had attempted to steal a customer’s belongings from inside a men’s fitting room while the customer was trying on clothes.
Authorities said that the customer noticed that Abdirahaman was trying to take his items and that is when the man took out a knife and stabbed the customer at about 6:45pm. Once the customer who was stabbed screamed out, his family tended to him promptly and that is when a second person was stabbed.
One of the victim’s reportedly suffered knife wounds to his back and the other received multiple stab wounds, authorities announced that the injuries were not life-threatening.
Prior to the stabbing, witnesses in the store claim the suspect was behaving erratically. The stabbing did cause shoppers to panic as they were waiting in line with their kids to get their picture taken with Santa.
Authorities say the Macy’s store was put on lockdown during the incident, the remainder of the 520-store mall remained open and not on lockdown.
