LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, UCLA basketball teammates, had been in custody in China for allegedly stealing. They were freed from Chinese custody early Tuesday after President Donald Trump intervened on their behalf.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the three had boarded a Delta flight to head home after being detained for over a week. A crime with a possible ten year sentencing, was stopped by Trump. The trio had allegedly attempted to steal from a Louis Vuitton store in China.
While President Trump was on his Asia trip, he spoke directly to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the players. In just about 24 hours, they were released.
Although this was a rather simple conversation for President Trump to have with President Jinping, it was not necessary. Other, more important items needed to be discussed, but Trump stepped up to bring his Americans home and without penalty. Trump’s negotiation skills are tremendous as we can see with the result of his conversation with Chinese President.
Thank you President Trump for standing up for Americans.
